Introducing Myself!
Hello! My name is Morgan. It is my senior year here at the grand ole’ University of Oklahoma, and I am majoring in Petroleum Engineering. I chose PE because I love math and am obsessed with rocks. I have a rock/fossil collection with over 100 rocks! This past summer I had an internship with a small oil company, and was able to find, drill, and produce my very own well!

When I grow up (which happens in about four months), I want to be a Petroleum Engineer. I will be working for Schlumberger as a field engineer doing Wireline Operations. In June I will be travelling to Abu Dhabi for training (about 3 months), and then I will be at Tyler, Texas for a bit! For about three years I will be in a rigorous training program, and then after that I plan on either moving up within the company or moving on to an operator (an oil company that actually produces oil, like Devon or Chesapeake). In dream-land, I will eventually own an oil company – Bookout Petroleum (name pending…it’s a little to “BP” for me).
While it does seem like I am a super-nerd, I also do fun things. For example, I am a member of Alpha Omicron Pi, where I served as the Standards Chair last year. This year I am actually living in the AOII house, which is quite the experience! I am also a Make-A-Wish wish granter, where I get to meet with kids and pretend to be their fairy godmother!! In all actuality though, I get to meet children with life-threatening illnesses, and then I get to grant their most heartfelt wish! So far, I have been able to send one girl to Disney World and another to Hawaii.

My all-time favorite thing to do in my free time is crafting. I am into a neat paper-art called quilling. You basically wrap thin sheets of paper into shapes and create anything you want. I center my art on things that really inspire me - like nature or famous paintings.

I just did this fish on 3/6, and am making a how-to post. I will link that in later! |
My interests a extremely varied, and I think the following phrase fits me quite well: "Jack of all trades, master of none, though oftentimes better than master of one."
And because nothing is better than a cat video, here is my favorite (Cute Cat Peek-A-Boo!):
That is so cool about your rock collection, Morgan! Just this Christmas we got rock gifts for grandchildren: for grandson, a box of geodes for him to crack open (I almost bought a box for myself... but I resisted temptation!), and for the granddaughters we got really cool rock game: have you seen this? ROCK ON! Geology Game ... my husband's daughter says the girls love the game! And your quilling art is BEAUTIFUL: I should get a quilling kit for the artsy granddaughter; I bet she would love it. There is so much beautiful artwork in the Indian tradition that I try to share as part of this class; maybe you will find some inspiration for your art there. Art is a global thing after all! With your many interests, I am sure you will enjoy the class, and I am curious to see which direction you will go with the different reading and project options.
ReplyDeleteHello Morgan,
ReplyDeleteBeing a Make-a-Wish granter must be so fulfilling. You literally get to make dreams come true for these children. I think you it is really cool that you aspire to have your own petroleum company. I always thought it would be pretty cool to be the first to unlock the true potential of biofuels and own my own biofuel company. So, when you become a multi-millionaire from Bookout Petroleum (or future name pending) and decide on opening up and funding biofuel research department, let me know! ;]
Hi Morgan it is very nice to see that you have such a drive for Petroleum Engineering and the aspects surrounded by your major. I find it very cool that you have such great dreams and already know a name for your own oil company. It seems like you are very active with your social life as well which is really awesome as well. Really nice introduction and it is good to hear a little about you.
ReplyDeleteHi Morgan! It's great to meet such an inspirational and personally motivated person. Between your PE major, executive position, school and your hobbies it's a wonder you find time to breath haha! A late congratulations on your past internship! It sounds like you had an amazing time. I love that you are so involved with your sorority! I am a member of Alpha Chi Omega and I have to say rushing was one of my best decision I made here at college. That is so great that you got to make those two kids dreams come true! Best of luck in this class and congratulations on your up-coming graduation!
ReplyDeleteHi Morgan!
ReplyDeleteWow, you have an amazing array of interests. Best of luck to you on creating your future dream come true of owning your own business. Sounds like you have a good plan underway for achieving your goals. You are very thoughtful and caring to be so involved in the Make-A-Wish program. The world needs more people to be involved like that.
I love rock and geology too. I read Laura's post and I think I will check into the game they got for the kids! I have been drawn to the quilling projects too. I have a Pinterest page full of ideas but I have not attempted it yet. Your projects are beautiful!
Thank you for that awesome introduction Morgan I love the fact that you collect rocks. I actually have a collection myself. Every time we take a trip I try to find one rock that will represent that trip for me and add it to my collection. It’s a new tradition but it is growing.
ReplyDeleteI also really like the layout and feel of your blog. It definitely has a fun whimsical feel to it.
The comment about BP. BWAHAHAHAHA
The make a wish foundation really had me going, “Awe!” I used to work with delinquent and deprived children with Crossroads Youth And Family Center there in Norman so I can appreciate how rewarding that type of work can be.
Awesome art work!
Morgan it is a pleasure to meet you. Congratulations with this being your last semester. You sound like an awesome person and I love that you are a wish granter! Your art work is so cool! I always wanted to try quilling, but I don’t think I have the patience or a vast sense of creativity when it comes to something like that. I love the aquarium scene, and I hope that you update the picture of your rendition of Starry Night when it is done. I hope you have a great semester and I look forward to reading more of your posts!
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing a little about yourself, Morgan. I am impressed with anyone who graduates with a degree in PE. I have a few friends who went through the program and saw the amount of time they had to put into their courses. I imagine that you are ready to graduate and be done with school. I know that I am! I have never heard of quilling before. It looks like it would require an incredible amount of patience and attention to detail. I can see how someone who succeeds in PE would be good at a craft like that.
ReplyDeleteMorgan,
ReplyDeleteYet another PE major in this class. I'm a junior right now. Congrats on graduating and finding a job, I know how hard that is right now. Also, good luck on starting your own company one day. That is a lot of ambition. Finally, your art looks great. I don't know where you find the time for it in our major.
Andrew
Hi, Morgan!
ReplyDeleteI have seen so many other petroleum engineers enrolled in this course! I think it’s so fantastic that you are pursuing such a grueling degree. It’s a tough program, and I am always really impressed with the people that make it through.
I am also really impressed by your crafts! I like to do crafty things, too, but mine generally involve furniture or wood pallets—nothing involving the small details and precision of the things you do. I love your in progress Starry Night craft. It’s gorgeous!
It was nice getting to know you, and I hope you have a wonderful semester.
Hi Morgan!
ReplyDeleteI am so impressed to here about your degree and your plans after graduation! I am graduating this May as well, but life after graduation is not as set as yours! I LOVE what you do for the Foundation. I love that you help others' dreams come true especially the children's! I also enjoyed seeing your crafts. Good luck on the rest of your semester
Morgan it's nice to meet you!
ReplyDeleteThat is awesome that you got such a great opportunity to dig your own well! I can only imagine how much work you had to put in to do that. I'm super impressed that you're a petroleum engineer because I am absolutely terrible with math and science. I hope one day you do own your own oil production company (I will definitely use your oil only). Good luck on the rest of your semester! I bet you are excited to graduate and get to working on your passion!
Nice to meet you, Morgan!
ReplyDeleteI am so impressed by your crazy variety of interests! I love that you're a rock nerd. That's so unique and interesting, and I'm happy you found a major that suits your interests, even if it does sound like a challenging life!
I've never heard of paper quilting, but I LOVE what you've shown here. Art is one of my hobbies I always want to spend more time on, so it's awesome that you've managed to explore your creative side and make some really gorgeous stuff!
Hi Morgan! I really like the layout of your blog! I think yours is the first I have seen with the labels column on the left side but I like it. I think it is awesome that you have a fossil collection. I tried collecting rocks when I was younger but I have a feeling yours are more impressive.

It is nice to meet you Morgan! I am a senior going through petroleum engineering too. I am glad you got a job with Schlumberger. That sounds like a great opportunity to start of your career as a petroleum engineer. The make a wish foundation is a great organization! I’m glad you are able to have fun while granting those kids their biggest wish.
ReplyDeleteHey buddy!
ReplyDeleteI am with you so often that it's unusual to come back and read a short biography! I find it hilarious how similar we are. One question, when you become a fancy CEO, will you hire me?! :) I sure hope so!
It has been wonderful to read more about you and your interests. See you on Monday!
I will most certainly hire you! I plan on only hiring people who I can personally vouch for! (lol, jk).

DeleteHi Morgan!
ReplyDeleteSo nice to "meet" you! You certainly are a jack of all trades, but often that makes for the most interesting people! It is so refreshing to meet people who are very excited and passionate about what they're going to do when they "grow up". I too will be graduating in may, I will be pursuing a Masters in Education! I am very excited as well.
Best of luck in your endeavors!
Hello Morgan, its good to see that you are very passionate about your major. I used to be in engineering myself but switched over to the business college. Now I am more focussed on programming and consulting practices with my MIS major. Congratulations on your upcoming graduation. It must be exciting and nerve-racking at the same time(at least that is what a lot of seniors tell me).
ReplyDeleteHi Morgan, it is very nice to meet you. I think it's cool that you have a variety of interests. I never knew about the quilling art craft until now, but it looks awesome. My favorite piece of yours is the aquarium! Maybe you could a do a post on how to make one of these crafts because I know I'm curious about the process.
ReplyDeleteHey Nikita! I am actually planning on doing a how-to post soon! I will post a link when I get that up! I put up a picture of a fish I just did, if you liked the aquarium you will probably like the fish too!
DeleteHi there Morgan! It was so nice to read your aspiring dreams to become a PE. Congrats on graduating and having a dream job already! That is awesome that you also make kid's dreams come true, very genuine of you. You are extremely talented as an artist, which you probably already know! Can't lie but was very jealous of your cute bass fish! It is a bass right?
